December has so many wonderful things about it, and Christmas songs are definitely one of mine. There’s a radio station here in my country that, once December arrives, plays only Christmas music – mostly Christmas carols. I can turn it on while I’m doing something else and realize much later that I’ve been listening to carols and Christmas songs for hours.

I love carols. I already shared some of my favorite Christmas carols, and music has always been a big part of December for me. Caroling is part of many Romanian Christmas traditions too, so I don’t associate Christmas songs only with playlists or radio stations.

And since I love trivia games too – and I already have a big Christmas trivia challenge – songs had to get their own version eventually.

So here it is: 200 Christmas song trivia questions and answers, starting easy, becoming trickier in the middle, and ending with hard questions that are still based mostly on Christmas music people may actually know. There are traditional carols, old standards, pop and rock songs, movie music and a few questions for people who know far more about Christmas music than the rest of us.

The answers are directly below the questions, so you don’t need to open or click anything. If you’re playing the whole quiz, give yourself one point for every correct answer and keep your total. A score guide appears after Question 200.

How to Use This Christmas Song Trivia Quiz

You definitely don’t need to answer all 200 questions in one evening. For a quick Christmas music quiz, pick 10 or 20 from different parts of the article. A family game can easily use 25 to 40, while a longer Christmas party or office trivia night can take questions from all three difficulty levels.

If different generations are playing together, I’d start with the easy Christmas song trivia questions and move up gradually. Someone who knows every traditional carol may get stuck on a newer pop song, while somebody younger may recognize Ariana Grande or Kelly Clarkson immediately and completely miss a song their grandparents know in seconds.

One point for each correct answer keeps scoring simple. If two people or teams finish level, save one of the harder questions you didn’t use as the tiebreaker.

How Did You Do?

If you kept score through all 200 Christmas song trivia questions, see where you landed. The ranges are generous because Christmas playlists can look very different depending on your age and where you live.

0-40 correct: You know the biggest Christmas songs and probably picked up quite a few new ones along the way.

41-80 correct: Christmas music definitely isn’t just background noise for you.

81-120 correct: You know a good mix of carols, classics and newer Christmas songs.

121-150 correct: You have strong Christmas music knowledge across several generations.

151-175 correct: You know far more than the songs that turn up most often on December radio.

176-190 correct: Very little in this Christmas music quiz managed to catch you out.

191-199 correct: I’d genuinely like to know which question stopped you from getting a perfect score.

200 correct: If you answered everything without looking anything up, you should probably be running the music round at the next Christmas trivia night.

What Makes These Christmas Song Trivia Questions Different?

I didn’t want a long Christmas music quiz to keep returning to the same few songs and simply ask about the singer first, the songwriter later and the recording date after that.

Each of the 200 questions uses a different song or piece of Christmas music. Once a song has been used, it doesn’t return later as another question from a different angle.

The difficulty rises gradually too. Easy is meant to feel easy. Medium asks for a little more recall. The first hard questions are still based on recognizable music before the final questions move into composers, traditional carols and Christmas music history.

I also avoided questions built around temporary statistics that may be outdated by next Christmas.

Christmas Song Trivia Questions: Frequently Asked Questions

What are some good Christmas song trivia questions?

Good Christmas song trivia questions use music people are likely to recognize but ask for something they still have to remember: a singer, a character, an object from the song, a movie connection, an original title or a little bit of music history.

For an easy round, songs such as “White Christmas,” “Last Christmas,” “Feliz Navidad,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “All I Want for Christmas Is You” give most people a reasonable chance.

What’s the difference between a Christmas song and a Christmas carol?

“Christmas song” is the broader term. It includes traditional religious carols, secular standards, novelty songs, pop records and other music associated with Christmas.

A Christmas carol usually has a stronger connection with traditional Christmas celebration and is often religious, although the boundary isn’t perfect. “Silent Night” is a carol. “Last Christmas” is a Christmas song, but few people would call it a carol.

What Christmas songs work best for a trivia game?

Choose music that several generations are likely to recognize. Traditional carols, older standards and modern Christmas hits give you a better mixed-age game than dozens of questions from one decade.

How many questions do you need for a Christmas music quiz?

Ten questions are enough for a quick round. Twenty to 30 work well for a family game, while 40 to 60 can support a longer trivia night. A 200-question collection lets you create several different games without repeating the same material.

How do you make Christmas song trivia harder without using obscure songs?

You can keep the songs familiar and ask a harder type of question: who wrote it, which movie introduced it, where it came from or what an older version was called. Only the final part of a very large trivia collection needs to move into genuinely specialist Christmas music history.

Can children and adults play the same Christmas song trivia game?

Yes. Mixing generations and styles helps. Children and younger adults may recognize newer pop and movie songs first, while older players may know more traditional carols and older standards.

Are Christmas carols included in Christmas music trivia?

Yes. Christmas music is the larger category, so a broad Christmas music trivia quiz can include traditional carols alongside secular Christmas songs and modern recordings.

For me, leaving the carols out would remove a huge part of December. They’re among the songs I’ve known the longest, and they’re one reason Christmas music feels different from a normal playlist.

Conclusion

Putting together 200 Christmas song trivia questions makes you realize just how much music gets packed into one season. A carol written centuries ago can play immediately before Wham!, Mariah Carey or Kelly Clarkson, and somehow it all belongs on the same December playlist.

I still love the traditional carols most, but I like how the Christmas playlist keeps growing. New songs arrive, older recordings come back every year, and then there are those songs you’ve heard so many times that the first few notes are enough to know exactly what’s coming.

If you want to keep playing after this, the wider Christmas quiz covers traditions, food, history and plenty more beyond music. And when Christmas starts turning into New Year’s Eve, there are New Year trivia questions waiting for the next celebration.

For now, I hope you had fun with these. And if somebody in your family or group is absolutely convinced they know every Christmas song, you now have 200 ways to find out.
