We’re celebrating 60 years since Star Trek first arrived on television. Sixty years – can you believe that? Over the last few days, I’ve seen so many videos with William Shatner and other Star Trek actors that I suddenly realized Star Trek is a lot older than I am. The Original Series debuted on September 8, 1966, a date that even shows up in my September trivia questions and answers.

My own Star Trek story started much later. Star Trek: The Next Generation was the first series I saw. I had a black-and-white TV then, and we’d only recently gained access to more than the national TV channels. Somewhere along the show, we finally bought a color TV. It was… awesome! Cable TV was huge for me. Later I discovered Star Trek with Captain Kirk, the first in the Star Trek series, then Deep Space Nine…

Years passed, and a few years ago I discovered that Patrick Stewart had returned as Picard. Of course I had to watch. Then, this year, when I saw that The Next Generation was leaving Netflix where I live, I started binge-watching the entire series. I don’t usually do that, but I’m very happy I watched all seven seasons again. So many subjects were brought into the light back then, and so many of the ideas still make you think decades later.

I don’t know every tiny detail from every Star Trek show, but I’ve loved this universe for years, and the 60th anniversary seemed like the right excuse to create a huge Star Trek trivia challenge. Below you’ll find 200 Star Trek trivia questions and answers covering every major era, from Kirk, Spock and the original Enterprise to TNG, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, the movies and newer Star Trek. They’re grouped from easy to medium and hard, but even the hard Star Trek trivia questions are meant to be answerable by fans.

Your Easy-Round Score

Write down your score before continuing. The first 70 were designed to be accessible, but you still needed knowledge from several different Star Trek eras.

Easy round: ___ / 70

The medium section goes further into episodes, relationships, alien cultures and movies, while still staying with facts regular viewers can reasonably remember.

Medium Star Trek Trivia Questions and Answers

The next 80 medium Star Trek trivia questions ask for more than character recognition. You’ll need to remember storylines, family connections, technology, villains, alien cultures and details that may have disappeared somewhere in the years since you watched an episode.

This is probably my favorite difficulty level. While rewatching TNG this year, I kept rediscovering characters and ideas I’d forgotten, and it brought back many memories from the years covered in my 90s trivia questions and answers. Medium should give you plenty of those “I know this…” moments before the answer finally comes back.

Characters, Relationships and Backstories

These Star Trek character trivia questions move deeper into friendships, families and personal histories. TOS and TNG still appear often, but DS9, Voyager and Enterprise are mixed through the same round.

71. What three-dimensional strategy game is Spock often seen playing?
Answer: Three-dimensional chess.

72. What fictional crystalline material is crucial to regulating the matter-antimatter reactions used in Star Trek warp drives?
Answer: Dilithium. Star Trek uses dilithium as a vital part of its faster-than-light propulsion technology, although real-world dilithium is simply a lithium compound rather than a magical warp-drive crystal. If you enjoy separating science fiction from actual science, the science trivia questions take that challenge in a very different direction.

73. Who is Spock’s father?
Answer: Sarek.

74. What is the name of Spock’s Human mother?
Answer: Amanda Grayson.

75. Which cyberneticist created Data?
Answer: Dr. Noonien Soong.

76. What is the name of Data’s dangerous android brother?
Answer: Lore.

77. What Betazoid word describes the deep personal bond between Deanna Troi and William Riker?
Answer: Imzadi.

78. What is the name of Worf’s son?

Answer: Nog.

88. Who serves as Voyager’s chief engineer?
Answer: B’Elanna Torres.

89. Which actor plays Voyager’s Emergency Medical Hologram, usually known simply as The Doctor?
Answer: Robert Picardo. If fictional doctors are one of your strongest TV categories, my medical drama TV trivia leaves Starfleet Sickbay behind for Grey’s Anatomy, House, ER and many others.

90. Which Vulcan science officer joins the crew of Enterprise NX-01?
Answer: T’Pol.

Episodes, Missions and Famous Enemies

Answer: Pon farr.

93. Which Original Series episode first takes the Enterprise crew into the Mirror Universe?

Answer: Phoenix. Its successful warp flight attracts the attention of passing Vulcans and becomes one of the pivotal events in Star Trek’s fictional history of humanity’s move into interstellar society.

110. What experimental technology lies at the center of the conflict in The Wrath of Khan?
Answer: The Genesis Device.

Starfleet, Starships and Alien Cultures

Fans looking for Star Trek TNG trivia questions, Voyager trivia questions and Enterprise trivia will find all three mixed together instead of separated into predictable blocks.

111. What famous Starfleet test presents cadets with a no-win scenario?
Answer: The Kobayashi Maru test. The point isn’t simply to find a tactical solution; the scenario tests how a prospective officer responds when victory isn’t available. Kirk’s refusal to accept the premise became part of his character’s mythology.

Answer: Sto-Vo-Kor.

119. Which doctor replaces Beverly Crusher as chief medical officer during the second season of The Next Generation?
Answer: Dr. Katherine Pulaski. Diana Muldaur played Pulaski for one season before Beverly Crusher returned, giving TNG a very different doctor-patient and doctor-Data dynamic for that year.

Answer: Intrepid-class.

124. Which Vulcan organization does T’Pol initially represent before her loyalties become more closely tied to Enterprise?

Answer: Denobulan.

126. Which Andorian commander develops a complicated alliance and rivalry with Jonathan Archer?

145. Which actor became the first Star Trek performer to portray members of the Romulan, Vulcan and Klingon species?

150. What is the title of the Deep Space Nine series premiere?
Answer: “Emissary.”

Your Medium-Round Score

Add up this section separately before moving on. If you remembered obscure relationships more easily than the ship technology, or DS9 better than the movies, the final 50 may change your ranking again.

Medium round: ___ / 80

The last round is harder, but I still wanted the questions to trigger recognition when you see the answer. No random stardate exam is waiting for you.

Hard Star Trek Trivia Questions and Answers

The final 50 hard Star Trek trivia questions are aimed at longtime viewers and fans who remember specific episodes, secondary characters and deeper pieces of canon. Harder doesn’t mean impossible here. You’ll see recognizable episodes and characters, but the answer usually requires one extra step of recall.

Older Star Trek still carries most of the round, while a few newer-series questions appear toward the end. Fans searching for hard Star Trek trivia questions for true fans should have enough challenge without needing an encyclopedia beside them.

Character Histories and Deeper Lore

The first part of the hard round stays close to people and episodes that dedicated fans know. The difficulty comes from remembering what happened to them, where they came from or which less-famous character played an important role.

Answer: M-5.

155. What name does Data give the android daughter he creates in “The Offspring”?

The Final Star Trek Fan Challenge

The last 15 mix production history, finales and newer Star Trek with classic franchise lore. They should be the toughest questions in the article, but the goal remains the same: recognition and memory rather than meaningless technical minutiae.

Answer: Jeffrey Hunter.

187. Which actress plays Number One in “The Cage”?
Answer: Majel Barrett.

188. Michael Myers’s famous mask in the original Halloween was created from a commercial mask based on which Star Trek character?
Answer: Captain Kirk, using a mask based on William Shatner’s face. The inexpensive Captain Kirk mask was modified for Halloween, creating a strange connection between Star Trek and one of horror cinema’s most famous villains. It’s one of my favorite crossover facts from the Halloween movie trivia.

Your Hard-Round Score

If these questions slowed you down, they did what hard trivia is supposed to do. Add the final 50 points to your easy and medium results.

Hard round: ___ / 50

What’s Your Star Trek Trivia Score?

You can score the full Star Trek trivia quiz with one point for every correct answer, for a maximum of 200. I wanted a wide spread between knowing the famous characters and remembering details from individual episodes, so there’s plenty of room between casual fan and near-perfect score.

0-49 correct – Starfleet Cadet
You know some of the biggest names and ideas, but Starfleet still has plenty of viewing material for you.

50-89 correct – Ensign
You’ve spent enough time in this universe to know more than the basics, even if a few crews caught you off guard.

90-124 correct – Lieutenant
A strong result. You can move between several Star Trek eras without completely losing your bearings.

125-154 correct – Commander
You remember characters, ships, alien cultures and major stories across several series and movies.

155-179 correct – Captain
You know Star Trek very well. The hard round probably contained more frustrating near-misses than complete mysteries.

180-194 correct – Admiral
Very little escaped you, including deeper episode lore and questions outside the best-known series.

195-200 correct – Starfleet Trivia Legend
If you scored this high without searching for answers, you should probably be hosting the next Star Trek trivia night.

Which Star Trek Eras Appear Most in These 200 Questions?

The Original Series and The Next Generation receive the most attention in this Star Trek trivia collection, followed by Deep Space Nine, Voyager, the classic movies and Enterprise. That weighting is intentional. Kirk, Spock, Picard, Data, Worf and the crews around them have six decades of franchise history behind them, while DS9 and Voyager add enough depth to make a 200-question quiz much more interesting than a TOS-and-TNG-only challenge.

The Animated Series, Kelvin-timeline movies, Discovery, Picard, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Prodigy and Starfleet Academy appear too, along with a small amount of Short Treks and Section 31. Newer Trek is represented without turning a quiz created for several generations of fans into a test dominated by the most recent releases.

I mixed the series throughout because I find that more fun. A TNG fan might cruise through Picard questions, lose points on Voyager and suddenly recover when Kirk appears again. It also works better when several people play together and their favorite Star Trek eras aren’t the same.

How to Use These Questions for a Star Trek Trivia Night

You don’t need to read all 200 questions aloud to use this as a Star Trek trivia night set. For a shorter game, choose questions from all three difficulty levels and keep the series mixed. A 30-question version could use around 10 easy questions, 15 medium questions and five hard ones, which gives casual players chances to score without making the final result too easy for longtime fans.

Scoring a Star Trek Trivia Night

The simplest system is one point per correct answer. I prefer that to awarding two or three points for harder questions because everybody hears the same question, and a single hard answer shouldn’t completely outweigh several correct easier ones.

Before you start, decide how strict you’ll be about spelling, ranks and full names. I’d accept a recognizable spelling of Qo’noS, for instance, and I wouldn’t reject “Picard” when a question clearly asks for Jean-Luc Picard unless the full name is the fact being tested.

Playing With Mixed-Knowledge Teams

If some players know Star Trek inside out and others don’t, put people into teams and spread the questions across eras. You can even mix one Star Trek round into a larger general knowledge quiz instead of making the entire evening about one franchise.

For a group with younger and older fans, I’d avoid choosing 15 consecutive questions from the hardest section. A few difficult questions are fun; a whole game where nobody can answer anything stops being one fairly quickly.

Using the Hard Questions as Tie-Breakers

Questions from the final 50 work well as tie-breakers, but choose one the players haven’t already heard. If nobody gets it, move to another question rather than switching to a random stardate or asking players to estimate an obscure number.

A good tie-breaker still gives someone a realistic chance to know the answer. Winning because you remembered Kahless, the Picard Maneuver or T’Plana-Hath feels much better than winning because your guess at a starship measurement happened to be closer.

Conclusion

Putting these 200 Star Trek trivia questions together took me back through a franchise I’ve known for a surprisingly large part of my life. I first watched Picard and his crew on a black-and-white television when cable TV itself felt exciting, later discovered Kirk and Deep Space Nine, eventually got that wonderful color TV, and decades afterward found myself binge-watching all of TNG again.

I still don’t remember everything. That’s part of the fun. One episode comes back immediately, another answer sits somewhere at the edge of your memory, and then a question about a character you haven’t thought about in 20 years suddenly feels easy.

Star Trek has now been doing that to viewers for 60 years.

So how did you do? I’d love to know your score, but I’m even more curious about which era gave you the easiest points and which one caused the most trouble. And if the years around TNG, DS9 and Voyager are your strongest nostalgia territory, you can change subjects completely with my 90s music trivia after this.

Questions About This Star Trek Trivia Quiz

With 200 Star Trek quiz questions and answers spanning six decades, a few practical questions are worth answering for readers using the page for a game or choosing which parts to play.

Does this Star Trek trivia quiz cover all the television series?

Yes. The questions include The Original Series, The Animated Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, Discovery, Picard, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Prodigy and Starfleet Academy. Short Treks appears as well, while the movies include the original-cast films, TNG films, the Kelvin timeline and Section 31.

Are there more questions about classic Star Trek than the newer shows?

Yes. TOS and TNG receive the largest share, with substantial coverage of DS9, Voyager, Enterprise and the earlier movies. The newer series are included so the collection reflects the wider franchise, but they don’t dominate it.

Are these Star Trek trivia questions suitable for casual fans?

The easy section is. Those questions focus on well-known characters, ships, species, technology and films. Medium requires better recall, while the final 50 are intended for longtime fans who remember individual episodes and deeper canon.

How difficult are the hard Star Trek trivia questions?

They require more detailed knowledge, but they aren’t built around random stardates, meaningless serial numbers or one-scene characters. Most dedicated fans should recognize what the question refers to even when they can’t immediately remember the answer.

Can I use these questions for a Star Trek trivia night or pub quiz?

Yes. You can use all 200 for a long game or select questions from several parts of the article for shorter rounds. Mixing easy, medium and hard questions usually works better when players have different levels of Star Trek knowledge.

How were the Star Trek trivia answers fact-checked?

I checked franchise, character, episode and movie information against official Star Trek and Paramount material wherever possible, then removed or rewrote questions that could reasonably produce more than one answer. I also checked for repeated facts so the same piece of trivia isn’t simply turned around and asked again later.

How I Checked These 200 Star Trek Trivia Questions and Answers

With a franchise that has existed since 1966, it’s surprisingly easy for a trivia collection to mix up television canon, movie timelines, fan terminology and details that changed from one era to another. I used the official Star Trek series and movies hub as a starting point for franchise coverage, while Paramount’s 60th anniversary coverage confirms the original September 8, 1966 television debut.

Several of the more specific questions were checked against official material too. StarTrek.com’s explanation of the Prime Directive identifies it as General Order 1, while its history of the Space Shuttle Enterprise documents the real-world Star Trek fan campaign connected with the shuttle’s name.

The stranger crossovers needed checking as well. StarTrek.com’s account of William Shatner’s Halloween mask connection confirms the Captain Kirk origin behind Michael Myers’s mask, while the site’s history of the USS Stargazer covers the Battle of Maxia and the Picard Maneuver.

I left out questions when the only thing making them difficult was an arbitrary registry number, exact stardate or microscopic production detail. Easy should feel accessible, medium should reward regular viewers, and hard should make a serious fan stop and think – without turning Star Trek trivia into an encyclopedia exam.
