I love movies – I always have. Some of my wonderful memories are from going to the cinema with my mom and, later, with my husband.

I’ve also watched a lot of movies at home, on TV and online. I have Disney+ and Netflix, and I also had Prime Video for a year. I watch old films as well as new ones, and it’s incredible to see how much cinema has changed from Charlie Chaplin to Hitchcock and then to the techniques and styles used today.

As I’m sure I’m not the only one who loves movies, I thought it would be fun to create a big movie trivia questions and answers collection covering different decades, styles and genres. The 300 questions start easy, move through accessible medium rounds and finish with a short hard section for people who really know their films.

Oh, and as a note: I have grouped them by decades – so keep going until the end, as you will see a lot of fun and interesting questions in this accessible movie trivia.

I hope you’ll enjoy it and use it for family trivia, a game day or a movie trivia game night with friends. You can keep score from Question 1 to Question 300, or use one section when you want a shorter game.

And one more thing: I have included a few videos I think you will like 🙂

How to Use These Movie Trivia Questions for Game Night

You don’t need special equipment to turn these movie trivia questions for game night into a proper challenge. For a short game, choose 20 or 30 questions and mix the easier opening round with one decade section and a few of the final questions. For a longer evening, use 10-question rounds and let each section provide its own theme.

Families with different ages can begin with Questions 1–75, then add animation and family films. Groups of adults who watch a lot of movies can start farther down and save Questions 291–300 for the end. If two teams are tied, choose an unused question from the Oscar or quote rounds for a quick tie-breaker.

I created this because movie knowledge is much more fun when it becomes a shared game. I hope you use it for family trivia, a game day, a movie night or an evening with friends – and that at least a few answers make everyone say, “I knew that!” a second too late. Around Halloween, you can also mix in a round from these Halloween trivia questions.

If you want to make the evening feel more like an event, some of these staycation ideas at home include simple cinema-style touches such as homemade movie tickets, snacks and a darker room.

How This Movie Trivia Was Fact-Checked

I checked the questions individually and kept the wording specific when remakes, sequels or different versions could cause confusion. Award claims were checked against the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; classic-film and production details were cross-checked with resources such as the AFI Catalog and the Library of Congress National Film Registry when relevant.

I also avoided current “record holder” questions when the answer could change next year. The goal here is a movie quiz you can return to without discovering that half a section has expired.

Conclusion

Three hundred questions later, we’ve moved through silent comedy, Golden Age Hollywood, Hitchcock, musicals, New Hollywood, 1980s favorites, 1990s blockbusters, 2000s franchises, animation, international cinema and some of the biggest movies of the last few years.

Movie technology and styles keep changing. A great film can still surprise you, make you laugh, scare you, stay in your head for years – and suddenly give you exactly the answer you need during a trivia game.
